  It is well established that exercise is a critical component in the management of diabetes, but many diabetes patients struggle with exercise. Physical therapists are the "exercise experts" in the guidance of patients' overall care. What are the benefits of physical therapy for patients living with diabetes? Join guest host, Janice Baker, RD, CDE, and her guest, physical therapist in San Diego, California, Jim Flood, as they discuss the benefits of designing an exercise plan for their patients.





Janice Baker has been providing diet counseling and medical nutrition therapy since 1982, specializing in weight management, diabetes education, cardiac risk reduction and eating disorders. Ms. Baker's career in nutrition started with hospital dietetics, working with patients in medical, surgical and intensive care units. Other areas of medical nutrition therapy experience include cancer support, home health care, worksite wellness programs, pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation.Ms. Baker has also worked with local school districts to educate students and teachers about childhood nutrition issues. She has developed an accredited school nurse education program on diabetes, as well as health and wellness programs for the North County Transit District bus drivers and train operators. Ms. Baker has written monthly newspaper columns, and has participated in radio, television, and public speaking engagements.Ms. Baker received her BS in dietetics and food administration from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. She completed a post-graduate dietetic internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ms. Baker received her Master of Business Administration from National University in San Diego, California. 

Jim Flood is a physical therapist and owner of Personally Fit Physical Therapy, in San Diego, California.Mr. Flood received his MS in physical therapy from the University of Southern California. He has specialized training in manual therapy for spinal and peripheral mobilization, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and orthotic fabrication. Mr. Flood's interests include fitness and wellness, promoting healthy lifestyles, and preventing injuries.
